BlogHer: Connecting With Fantastic People

logo BlogHer: Connecting With Fantastic People

This will be my first of many posts about what I did and how it went at BlogHer ’10.  Let me start by saying that it was a great time wouldn’t even touch how special this weekend was.  The air the entire weekend was electric with women and men coming together to share one common thread: blogging.

me and Julie 300x225 BlogHer: Connecting With Fantastic PeopleToday I’d like to touch on old and new friends.  When I got to my first event at the NY Hilton I got to meet one of my BFF’s.  Yes, you read that correctly: I wrote MEET and BFF in the same sentence.  You see 6 years ago Julie of Just Precious (and half of Just Centsible) reached out to me in a moment in my life when I needed it most.  She lives in Philadelphia and I live in Los Angeles (our picture to the left is courtesy of Julie).  We forged a friendship, bond and sisterhood.  However, we were geographically challenged, so after a much needed meeting we got to hug each other in real life, even though at first she just said “oh Hi” as if we had seen each other the day before it was surreal moment.

I have been a member on the Mommies With Style Forums for 5 years and have met only 2 of the dozens of friends I have made there.  Meeting Whitney of Mommies With Style and Jennifer of Ellie Bellie Kids and Classic Play was fantastic.  They were much more beautiful in person.  I also got to see Cheryl of Mommy Pants and Ciaran of Momfluential (for a brief minute) who I have the luck of living only an hour away from.

I got to meet Kelly of Centsible Life (and the other half of Just Centsible), who has become a great friend.

Of course who could forget the fact that I got to meet my friend from San Diego for 10 minutes Stefanie of Ooph.  Stefanie we will have to make it a longer meeting next time.

However, hanging out with Romy of Romy Raves for most of the weekend proved to be so much fun, and I now consider her a great friend.  She is as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside.

In all, I can’t even name all of the great bloggers I met.  I can’t put into words how wonderful and empowering this weekend was, but I can tell you it was worth every minute I can and can’t remember.  I didn’t pull out my camera too often which means I have very few pictures.  I’m so upset with myself and hope that my friends will be kind enough to send me pictures they took (hint hint), and I will share them with you then.  More to come…

I know me too. I only wish we could’ve spent even more time together. I hope you can come to SD next year. We’ll have to plan a MWS party so we’re sure to all be in the same place at the same time.

You are so kind. It’s hard to believe I finally got my hair this length. It used to take me no time at all to grow my hair out, but then I had kids and it messed up everything. Anyway, we will HAVE to get together soon.

  6. What a great experience the BlogHer conference must have been! Online friendships are so great anyway, and getting to meet in person is even better! I’m happy to meet you through SITS 31DBBB!

(little secret: I read my reader on Mondays on the EFX, so I really shouldn’t have seen this until then!) But I’m SO glad I stopped by and read this today. Your para about us made me teary and still is. And the rest of what you wrote gave me chills. Because I totally identify. Meeting you and the girls was a HUGE part of my weekend.

And my “oh hi” moment was crazy! I was so overwhelmed with the bus and the bags and there you were and I was like “oh, hi, Candice. I can talk to you anytime” and then “OMG!!!! HELLO!!?? THAT’S CANDICE!!!!!!!!!!” I will never, ever, ever forget the feeling when it dawned on me that I was actually meeting you in person.

    XOXO

I know that you were overwhelmed by everything which is why I took no offense to it all. I was just happy to meet you in person. I think Whitney’s response was even funnier. She hugged me looked at you and said “who is this?” I think of that as way funnier. You’re screaming it’s Candice and Whitney perplexed as to why she’s hugging a perfect stranger. It makes it much more memorable that way then big hugs and love. Thinking about our good-bye still makes me cry. I of course cried telling Rob about it. Actually everything about meeting you in person makes me teary eyed. We will do something sooner (I hope!)
