Cool But Not Cold: Spring Outerwear

California, especially LA, is known for its warm weather.  But as we move into April I find myself wondering what to wear to protect against chilly mornings and nights without the heavy and unnecessary bulk of a winter coat.

It’s no secret that the trench coat is a springtime staple for your wardrobe.  I love how elegantly and classically chic it is, and even in this year’s bright colors and patterns it still alludes to the mystery it embodied as the Private Eye’s uniform.  Love the trench but want to keep it color neutral?  Stick with classic beige with an eyelet hem to mix it up, like the one below from Apt. 9 (available at Kohl’s).

Spring 2012 Trenches
With the new season of Mad Men  underway what about a throwback to those retro days with this sweet lime green Jacklyn spring jacket from Ruche?  I adore the idea of pairing it with a skirt or jeans and these color-blocked peep toes from Nine West.
Spring 2012 Sweet Jacket
Of course if you’re more the “Bad Girl” type there are many options as well!  A sturdy motorcycle jacket or denim jacket with a flattering cut and fit will always be in style (just like that perfect pair of jeans and boots that you’ll pair it with!).
Spring 2012 Tough Gal Jackets
The options are endless when it comes to spring jackets and outerwear.  Whether you keep it neutral or bright, keep it light, keep it layerable and most importantly keep it fun!
